Autologous Chondrocyte Implantation. Knee joint.

CASE REPORT
 

Patient 45 years old, an athlete has severe pain in the knee joint in the last 7 years.

During the clinical examination found:

  • limit range of motion of the joint, flexion deficit of 30 degrees
  • swelling of joints

The MRI of the knee revealed extensive cartilage deficit in the patella and femoral trochlea.

The process of chondrocyte transplant involves two stages.

Arthroscopic sampling chondrocytes from suffering knee and sending the sample to a special center for culturing.

Surgery after 4-5 weeks for the implantation of cultured chondrocytes in the affected area.

Patellar and trochlea chondral defect. 

Cleaning the outbreak of the lesion in the femoral trochlea and patella for the application of cultured chondrocytes

Collagen substrate on which we injected cultured chondrocytes. 

Injection of cultured chondrocytes on the collagen substrate

Loading the film of collagen impregnated with chondrocytes in the outbreak of the lesion in the femoral trochlea

Injection adhesive to the outbreak of the lesion of the patella

Placement of cultured chondrocytes in the outbreak of the lesion in the center of the patella

Postoperative rehabilitation program of the knee joint to improve the strength of the quadriceps and increased range of motion of joints

The postoperative course was in excellent.

Four months after surgery the patien already involved in minor sports program activities and the clinical condition of the constantly improving.
